What NJ SBE certification means

New Jersey certifies small businesses through Treasury's Division of Revenue and Enterprise Services under the "Set-Aside Act for Small Businesses, Female Businesses, and Minority Businesses," P.L.1983, c.482 (N.J.S.A. 52:32-17 et seq.) and its rules at N.J.A.C. 17:13 (NJ Treasury).

A 25 percent set-aside

The State's program was "established to award 25 percent of state contracting and purchase order dollars to small businesses" (Business.NJ.gov).

A limited group of eligible vendors

Registering makes a company "a member of a limited group of vendors eligible to participate in these selected contract offerings" (Business.NJ.gov).

Real eligibility standards

SBEs must have a New Jersey principal place of business, be independently owned and operated, be for profit and have 100 or fewer full-time employees (NJ Treasury).

Publicly listed

Certified businesses are posted to the State's public SAVI database, so primes and agencies can verify us (NJ Treasury).
