We’re JR Ramco. We dig, haul, build and restore the water, sewer and utility work our communities run on, and we’re always looking for good people to join the team.
Apply nowWhy work here
We built this company together, on people who show up and do the job right. If that’s you, here’s what you get.
Public and private infrastructure work across northern New Jersey keeps our trucks and crews moving.
Water mains, sewer, stormwater, lead service line replacement and road restoration. You’ll see what you helped build.
We’re a growing company. Learn the business, take on more, and grow with us.
Everybody goes home the same way they came in. That’s how we run every job.
Two ways in
We hire for two kinds of jobs, and they work differently. We want to be straight with you up front.

Track 2 · Through the union hiring hall
JR Ramco is a union contractor, and we work under labor agreements. Our operating engineers come to us through the union hiring hall, not off the street.
The hall is responsible for membership, vetting and training, and it dispatches qualified members to us. That means we can’t take field applications here, and we don’t want to mislead anybody.
If you want to work in the field as an operating engineer, start with the Operating Engineers Local 825 hiring hall: iuoe825.org
Apprenticeship
JR Ramco co-sponsors apprentices through IUOE Local 825’s apprenticeship program. It’s one of the ways we help bring the next generation of operating engineers into the trade.
Local 825 sets up its apprenticeship as a four-year program that prepares you to work as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic in construction.
At least 144 hours of classroom and on-the-job, hands-on training each year, plus about 1,500 hours of work experience each year to advance to the next level.
Local 825’s training centers cover nearly 60 acres with more than 90 pieces of equipment, simulators and instrumentation, including cranes, millers, pavers, backhoes and dozers.
At least 18 at the time of application, a valid driver’s license, and high school or an equivalent program completed. A limited number of applications are accepted.
Apprentice applications come only from Local 825, not from JR Ramco. Dates, requirements and the application are on Local 825’s official pages. The New Jersey Training Center is at 338 Deans Rhode Hall Road, Dayton, NJ 08810, (732) 798-2170.
